“Success is where preparation and opportunity meet”
Annual sports meet of St. Ann’s P.U College for the year 2018-19 was held on the 13th of November 2018 in the Police parade grounds, Pandeshwar, Mangalore.
Sports and athletics have been an integral part of St. Ann’s PU College. Keeping up the tradition, this year too, the sports meet was organized with the same flamboyant spirit among the students, a venue to display their physical powers.
Honourable Sri Ivan D‘souza, M.L.C graced the occasion as chief guest. Sr. Maria Kripa, the local manager and Jt. Secretary of St Ann’s Institutions, Sr. Ida Barboza, the Secretary, Apostolic Carmel Educational Society and Sr. Rose Agnes, the Asst. Provincial Superior were the guests of honour. The Principal Sr. Marilda and the Vice Principal Sr. Judith Frank were also present on the occasion.
The guests were welcomed with a guard of honour. The programme began with an invocation followed by a welcome address by the principal.
The Chief Guest Sri Ivan D’souza, escorted by the guests of honour, the Principal and the Judges of the march past inspected the parade.
The students marched proudly with military precision and perfect synchronization, majestically adorned in colourful uniform exquisitely designed by them, to the rhythm of the college band guided by Mr. Vijay Olivera. The Chief Guest Hoisted the college flag. The arrival of the torch was followed by the lighting of the flame. The Sports Minster Ms. Afsa Sariya administered the oath pledging to inculcate the spirit of sportsmanship within them.
The Chief Guest declared the sports meet for the year 2018-19 open to a thunderous applause. He addressed the gathering with an inspiring message. In his address he was superlative in his praise for the march past done by the students stating that it was outstanding and well synchronized. He lauded the energy zest and vitality of students. He also opined that the sport is very important part of education because it makes students disciplined.
The Drill Dance performed by the students was spectacular and colourful, the programme was concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Spearl.
The athletes competed with each other in various events.
Sr. Marie Prem D’souza graced the occasion as the chief guest of the closing ceremony and Sr. Maria Kripa presided over the ceremony. They were welcomed with a guard of honour.
The closing ceremony began with a jumbled march followed by invocation and a welcome address by the Vice Principal Sr. Judith Frank. The meet was declared closed by the chief guest and the college flag was handed over to the Principal by the sports minister.
The lit flame was put off with the beating of the retreat. The winners of different athletic events were felicitated. The overall championship was won by Ms. Harshitha B.N. of II EBAC.
The march past competition was won by the students of II Science, the runners up were I and II ESBA and the second runners up were I Science students. Ms. Jolita proposed the vote of thanks .The event was co-ordinated by Mr. Roque Anil Noronha and compered by Mrs. Reena D’souza and Ms.Aleena Elias.
